Challenges
In New Hampshire, CORIS replaced two NHDOC legacy systems, one for prison management and the other for probation and parole.
Their disparateness and inadequate support prompted New Hampshire to issue an RFP for a more advanced, integrated solution.
Services such as the distribution of restitution payments were particularly cumbersome using the old systems. The fact that CORIS is both functionally rich and fully integrated offered significant advantages.
Solution
Corrections workers in New Hampshire have the big picture on their offender population following the implementation of the Corrections Information System (CORIS). Designed and built by Abilis New England, CORIS is an offender management system (OMS) that manages all aspects of institutional and community-based corrections.
CORIS connects relevant stakeholders through a single electronic offender record and centralized database, thereby providing a holistic view of the offender’s status, history and risk profile. Through access to complete, accurate, real-time information, corrections officers can make more informed decisions related to treatment and security, helping to improve tracking and management of offenders as they move through the system.
“Corrections is a highly specialized field, and there are few companies that truly understand its operational realities and requirements,” said Ron Cormier, Project Manager of the New Hampshire CORIS implementation for the New Hampshire Department of Corrections (NHDOC). “Abilis’ experience in this area and its demonstrated success in other jurisdictions is evident. CORIS is now delivering measurable benefits to the NHDOC through the ability to access standardized information in a timely manner.”

The NHDOC implementation was carried out in a phased manner: The community-corrections module for the Field Services Division was rolled out in 2006 and the Prison Services module went live June 2, 2008.
Abilis New England provided all related implementation services including data migration, training, and customization. Abilis New England specializes in tailoring solutions that meet clients’ specific needs.
